BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. -- Just Fore You Jewelry, maker of designer-fashioned, elegant golf-inspired jewelry, will donate several pieces of its handmade jewelry to the Camp Siberia charity auction, to be held Feb. 27 at Kiana Lodge in Poulsbo, Wash. The funds raised at the auction will be used to support Camp Siberia, a not-for-profit organization based on Bainbridge Island, Wash., that provides leadership development to Northwest youth while conducting an American-style summer camp for Russian orphans in the countryside outside Novosibirsk, Russia.

"It is an honor to help support this worthy effort," said Lucia Olson, CEO/Designer of Just Fore You Jewelry. "Our local teens compete for a select number of spots on the counselor team, and each year we have an outstanding group of teens representing us to the people of Russia."

In addition to the summer camp, Camp Siberia provides financial support, mentoring and life-skills training for Russian orphans as they 'age out' of the orphanages. Funds for the program are raised through the annual auction.

"We are delighted to have the contribution of some pieces from Just Fore You Jewelry for our charity auction," said Ellin Spenser, president of the board of Camp Siberia (www.campsiberia.org). "The jewelry is so beautiful, I'm sure it will be a big draw. All the money raised will be used to provide these Russian children with training and education to enable them to live productive lives after they leave the orphanage.

Real black agate???

I bought a black agate bracelet from a shop and i would like to know how to determine whether it is a genuine black agate? The one i bought is black color stone with white stripes (some with white/black spot). I found that the stipes were not only on the surface of the stone but 'inside' the drilled hole, which means if i cut the stone along the stipes, i will see white surface on the cutting edge if you know what i mean. Does this indicate genuine black agate? Please help.

Agate can be dyed by letting solutions of pigments permeate the interstices between the proto-crystallites - I have two blue-dyed quadrants of an agate on my bookshelf which probably owe their color to cobalt solution. I have no idea what mix of pigments would be needed for dying agate black.

Dark grey agate is quite common, with bands of lighter grey or even white, and occasionally rust colored bands. My blue agate still has those lighter bands, with the white ones pretty much unaffected by the dye.

what's the real name for "water agate"?

I just bought a bracelet and the store's tag (it was a small store in a mall, so I suppose it's rather credible) says that the bracelet was made of a stone called "water agate". Problem is, I can't seem to find what it actually is because most of the books i have and even wikipedia doesn't acknowledge a stone called "water agate". The bracelet is composed of square-shaped pieces of(i think) one type of stone, the color is green to deep green, on some pieces I can see through it when I held it up to light and on others I can't. There are spots and flecks resembling moss on the pieces but I can't really be sure if it's moss agate or not. Can somebody help me please?

Water Agate is the real name of the mineral, it varies in colors from a light tan to a dark purple, and comes in a variation of shapes and sizes and varies in levels of transparency, it's primarily used in Jewelry and Interior design and is one of the most sought after minerals by Contractors and Architects, it is found in the 'Stinking Waters' of Oregon and is sometimes called 'Stinking Water Agate.'

Looks unisex to me. Generally, men's bracelet's tend to be bigger, so it might not fit her. (but hey, it's what, a dollar? go for it.)
