Callicoon mini-pin fetches Best of Breed win at show Times Herald-Record
NEW YORK — Howard Schwell couldn't have said it much better.
"He just went in there and said, 'Excuse me, this is my ring,'" Schwell said about his miniature pinscher, Major (Ch. Kimro's Soldier Boy), who won Best of Breed Monday at the 2010 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
Major, of Callicoon, beat 10 miniature pinschers to win his second straight Best of Breed title at Westminster. The top-ranked all-systems mini-pin of 2009 tied his father, Sarge, who won the breed title in 2007 and 2008.

But for the second consecutive year, Major couldn't bring home a Best in Group title. He failed to win the Toy Group, which would have sent him to Tuesday night's Best in Show competition.
Major's breed win marked the biggest honor in a sold-out day at Madison Square Garden pinched by minor local victories. Ray Ray (Ch. Gayleward's Jaraluv Nike) finished Best of Opposite in his Scottish deerhound competition; his father, Tiger, won the breed and the hound group in 2009. Rhodesian ridgeback Spirit, schipperke Surfer and collie (smooth) Deacon won awards of merit, which equal third place.
