Surgical steel earrings or acrylic plugs/tapers?

I know I am allergic to earrings that are not real gold, ever since I was a baby, and I've tried to wear fake earrings but they always end up being infected. I was told that I could probably were surgical steel earrings without my ears getting infected, is this true? Cause' I haven't tried wearing them. I have also been considering stretching my ears, I already know the facts and risks from doing it, but I was wondering if I wore acrylic plugs/tapers would it mess up my ears, considering that I am allergic to anything that's not gold. Thanks.

i have the same issue and i cant wear surgical steel. I invested in a cheap pair of sterling silver sleepers to wear all the time. And most of my fancy earings are sterling silver as well but if you want to wear the other ones steralize them before you put them in and only wear them for a few hours, like going out for dinner or whatever and then put your usual gold or silver back in when you get home.
As for the ear stretching, to get that reversed you would need surgury which is rather awful and painful, kinda like a tattoo in some ways, make sure u would be happy being an 80 year old with stretchies , i personally would avoid it all together. And yes the plastic may irritate your skin, just depends on your skin type.

How dangerous are acrylic earrings for long term use and stretching?

Someone asked this before but i just wanted more opinions for my personal situation. So i have a 18g piercing right now and i want to stretch it JUST A BIT BIGGER to 16g. I already bought a 16g earring to stretch with but its made out of acrylic. I read how dangerous it could be and how some other people didn't have any problems using acrylic at all. Any information and advice would help and would be much appreciated. *I also plan to keep the acrylic earring in my ear permanently or at least for a couple of years.

Acrylic is porous, and should never ever be worn in fresh stretches. Your skin can fuse to it.
Acrylic tapers are fine for some people. But shouldn't be worn as jewellery, and so isn't in ther long enough to cause a problem. And other people can't stretch with acrylic, or wear it at all.

Its okay in healed piercings... But a fair amount of people have nasty reactions to it. And its generally agreed it shouldn't be worn for the long term.
And even if you did... it'd probably need replacing every few months anyway.

It can also be broken down by the body. In theory releasing acrylic acid...
It makes any smell worse
And its nearly impossible to clean.

I only tend to wear acrylic in my silicone earskins (though that won't be an option for you), just in case.
And dental acrylic is a better option if you MUST wear acrylic. Tis autoclavable, and generally much nicer stuff.

There are plenty of better materials out there, fairly cheap and just as pretty. There isn't really any reason to wear acrylic for the long-term.
Glass is super pretty! But possibly not the best idea as 16g..
