Police and community briefs for Feb. 13, 2010 Ocala
A 33-year-old Ocala man was arrested Friday and accused of stalking his ex-girlfriend.
The 24-year-old woman, whose name is withheld because of the nature of the case, told Marion County Sheriff's deputies that Kevin Showalter has called her every day for the past five months and she's scared of him. The Sheriff's Office said Showalter was taken for mental health assistance on Feb. 3 pursuant to the state's Baker Act because he was depressed that the relationship had ended.
The victim said Showalter also had been caught listening outside her window, and even threatened her by saying: "If I can't have you no one will," the sheriff's report noted.
While the deputy was talking to the young woman, Showalter called the victim's phone and told her he was outside her window.
Showalter was later arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with aggravated stalking.
Traffic stop leads to drug charges for man
A traffic stop Thursday in the 14100 block of Southeast 47th Avenue led to the arrest of one man on drug charges.
Deputy John Remington noticed a four-door, black Dodge swerving in the roadway. This area is west of U.S. 301 and south of 135th Street in Summerfield.
Remington stopped the vehicle and noticed the passenger, later identified as Steven Kyle Badgley, throw a white object from the window. The driver ran away; authorities are still looking for him.
The deputy said Badgley, 19, tried concealing a small plastic bag that contained marijuana. Several dollar bills were on his lap, as was a small bag of powder cocaine. The white object was later recovered and it was filled with crack cocaine, the report said.
