Nyikos on fire Ararat Advertiser
ARARAT - The Ararat Cycling Club hosted a successful Diamonds at the Dome meeting last Saturday, impressing both competitors and spectators.
A large number of Ararat riders competed on the day, none more successful than Danielle Nyikos.
After a brilliant winning ride in the women's under 19 motorpace, Nyikos qualified for the 200 metre Diamond's Wheel Race final.
The race was a spectacle from start to finish and no placings were secure until the first rider crossed the line.
That rider was Apryl Eppinger who claimed victory from the scratch mark, but it was Nyikos who managed to overpower the rest of the field to snatch second place over Emy Huntsman, Molly Hegert and fellow Ararat rider Alice Fresle.
In only two short seasons Nyikos has risen to be one of the most competitive ladies on the cycling scene and she went a long way to proving it on Saturday.
The Diamond's Wheel Race is a prestigious event which saw riders compete for almost $7,000 in prizes, including diamond pendants provided by the Australian Diamond Company.
Fresle also rode well on Saturday and later came out to claim the women's under 19 400 metre scratch race.
In the junior men under 17 division, Evan Hull finished second in the Kieran final before picking up another second place in the 300 metre scratch race.
Meg Harrington and Olivia Nicholson represented Ararat in the junior women's under 17 division and both had successful meetings.
Harrington finished second in the 1000 metre handicap final and Nicholson placed third in the junior women under
