Hard work pays off for Boyd Anderson's May
It was National Signing Day, and Anthony May quietly sat at a long table, situated across the stage inside the Boyd Anderson High School Auditorium.
When it was his turn to address the crowd -- jam-packed with family, friends, administrators, staff, students and teachers -- May briefly, shyly gave thanks to those who helped him.
May, a 5-11, 265-pound center who started four years on the Cobras' varsity football team, signed a scholarship with NCAA Division II St. Paul's College in Virginia.
Big honors, matches, titles at Broward meetStranahan junior Martavius Crocker, Coral Glades senior Santiago Martinez and St. Thomas Aquinas senior Paul Weiss each won Most Outstanding honors Saturday at the Broward County Athletic Association Wrestling Championships at the Coral Springs Gymnasium.
Each won a BCAA title. It was the second for Weiss and first for Crocker and Martinez.
Crocker (13-1) at 112 won Most Outstanding Lightweight, Martinez (26-0) at 145 won Most Outstanding Middleweight and Weiss (30-0) at 189 won Most Outstanding Heavyweight.

The Eagles celebrated six district champions (Rodrigo Torres 103, Marcos Gomes 125, Elias Khawaja 130, Gio Jiovenetta 135, Sam Grossman 140, Brian Paull 285). For Gomes, it was his third district title.
At 112, Manny Zirpoli of Coral Glades won a district championship by avenging a loss at the BCAA meet to Deerfield Beach's Nicholas Christos. In a rematch of a BCAA final, unbeaten Santiago Martinez (40-0) also of Coral Glades won another tough battle with Vinny Jiovenetta (21-3) of Douglas.
