Irish athletes dominated the Celtic Schools Indoor International at Cardiff in Wales, winning 11 of the 20 events and beating teams from Wales and Scotland for the overall title.

Sarah McCarthy from Maryfield got the day off to the perfect start when she won the long jump with an outstanding new record of 5.71m. This was followed by victories from Marcus Lawler of CBS Carlow in the boys' 60m, and a first and second in the girls' 60m from Grainne Moynihan, St Mary's Macroom, and Marie Heelan, St John the Baptist, Croom.

Karl Griffin, of the Abbey Vocational School in Donegal, gave a display of quality middle-distance running when he won the 800m in 2:03.38. Another strong performance came from Coláiste íosagáin's Siofra Cleirigh-Buttner when she won the 1500m in 4:41.28. Shane Fitzsimons of St Joseph's Rochfortbridge made it a 1500m double for Ireland when he won the boys' race in 4:09.65.

Another Irish double came over 200m, with Marcus Lawler best of the boys and Sarah McCarthy first for the girls.

Lily-Anne O'Hora, Crescent Comprehensive, was an emphatic winner of the girls' 60m hurdles in 8.98. Ending the day with a great relay win was the girls' 4 x 200m quartet of Cliodhna Manning, Lily-Anne O'Hora, Grainne Moynihan and Sarah McCarthy.

My sister and I have Irish heritage (our parents were born and raised in Ireland) that we're very proud of. I'd love to get her a celtic/gaelic/irish ring for Christmas that's really beautiful and good quality...can anyone point me in the direction of some nice rings?

Are celtic knots acceptable promise rings?

I really like celtic jewelry and was planning on getting my girlfriend a promise ring. Are celtic knots acceptable for this? I'm on a budget so I can't afford much, besides if it's a pre-engagement ring I don't think it needs to be anything too flashy, that's what the engagement ring is for, right? I do have every intention of marrying her later once I have money saved to do so.

If money is that tight don't bother with a pre-engagement ring. Buy her a different piece of jewelry if you want and make your intentions known, but I don't think most women need that.
